MLA Leads ‘Climate Panchayat’ in North Bhubaneswar

Addressing Urban Environmental Challenges

On August 13th, a ‘Climate Panchayat‘ was held in North Bhubaneswar, focusing on critical environmental issues, including groundwater depletion and air pollution. MLA Sushant Kumar Raut, addressing the gathering, emphasized the importance of safeguarding the city’s green lungs, particularly the Bharatpur forest. He stressed that mere tree planting is not enough; ensuring their survival is crucial. Discussions also highlighted the need for stringent measures to protect water bodies, curb pollution, and promote afforestation to counter the adverse effects of climate change in the city.

A Collaborative Effort for Sustainability

The event saw participation from former PCCF Vijay Ketan Pattnaik, who discussed the importance of proper urban planning and the role of trees in reducing the need for artificial cooling. Sujit Mahapatra from Bakul Foundation called for proactive measures to address climate change at the grassroots level. The gathering concluded with a consensus on the need for collective action involving all stakeholders to protect and sustain the environment for future generations.

Towards a Sustainable Future

The ‘Climate Panchayat’ serves as a reminder of the urgent need for environmental responsibility. With the active involvement of the community, government, and environmental organizations, this initiative aims to create a sustainable and resilient urban environment, ensuring a healthier future for the next generation.
